Sam graduated from UCI with a B.S. in Neurobiology. During college, she worked for the Learning and Academic Resource Center on campus as a tutor for undergraduate courses ranging from biology to organic and general chemistry. She also took part in the Emergency Medicine Research Associates Program (EMRAP), in which she served as a research associate in the emergency department (ED) at UCI Medical Center for two years. After studying abroad at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland and graduating in 2016, she spent a year before entering medical school as a scribe in the ED at Hoag Hospital and as publishing director for the Western Journal of Emergency Medicine, in addition to traveling to Myanmar for humanitarian service work. Her background in emergency medicine research and experiences abroad have promoted her passion for global health and to pursue ultrasound research in Indonesia.
